Young Adulthood

I continued to date and actually had a potentially long term (as in marriage) relationship with one of my high school sweet hearts. Towards the end of the relationship we were having some differences of opinion that I could tell would never work themselves out so I began dating other girls and during my tour of duty with the National Guard I met the woman who would become my wife less than a year later.

The last Halloween before we got married we wanted to do something 'wild and crazy' so I suggested we dress up as each other and go downtown if we didn't do anything more than just drive around. She agreed and even though she didn't realize it I was secretly thrilled to the point that I lost sleep just thinking about it. It was the first time that I would have a valid excuse to buy a dress, shoes, a cheap wig, etc., and to wear them out in public. I'll never forget it - the dress was an evening dress I found at a thrift store. It was mint green and had an abundance of silk and lace. The shoes were black patent pumps with 3 inch heels (spiked even!).

Halloween night rolled around I took all my 'treasures' over to her house and she proceeded to make me up and fix the wig and she commented on how she just couldn't get over how I was able to walk around in those heels without falling all over myself! As I was walking, wait a minute - make that FLOATING around - I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror after she finished making me up. I felt like I was on fire! I felt as though if I didn't grab on to something I would float on up into the sky and go out of sight!

She thought it was a lot of fun that night, but she didn't have any idea that this was more than just fun for me, it was something I had only dreamed of doing and now it had finally happened! I had savored every moment of it and it was really a downer to have to take it all off when I got home later that night.
